Our Makerspace

Kent State University at Tuscarawas will increase digital and entrepreneurial literacy in Tuscarawas and surrounding counties by providing a Makerspace where state-of-the-art equipment and support services meet. Our campus is in a unique position to offer users support for the innovative ideas created in the Makerspace. Our programs provide education, while the Makerspace provides inspiration and the means to test and apply their education in ways that create new business ventures and marketable products.

Our partners in this project are poised to provide training, education, and support to budding entrepreneurs. The Makerspace welcomes participants to discover their creativity through exploration. Ideas can be developed into solid marketable plans through our partners and further developed through the University’s Tolloty Technology Incubator.

Our University has a unique collaboration with the surrounding community and agencies that help our audience develop entrepreneurial ideas. We are home to the Ohio Small Business Development Center, the Office of Business and Community Support Center. Another unique aspect of our campus is our proximity to the Tolloty Technology Incubator and the county industrial park, both located directly across the street.

These add up to an immense support for those who can turn an idea to a business. We have the infrastructure to create great things at this campus and we have the people here that can do just that. Our Makerspace provides the means to take knowledge and turn it into something tangible, marketable, and testable. A Makerspace is the solution to this gap between knowledge and the support system that builds an entrepreneur.

The University library has evolved. Our value goes beyond traditional library services. Adding a Makerspace and partnering with local business development agencies enables us to extend beyond our walls and support the entire community in economic development.
